I can’t believe it’s August! Summer has flown by, and it’s back to school for many parents. I will be focusing on back to school tips and products this month. It’s always great to get ideas for lunch boxes or after school snacks so I am reviewing some granola bars.
Cascadian Farms Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip “Kid Sized” Granola Bars
Cascadian Farms has 2 new varieties of granola bars marketed to kids, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip and Oatmeal Raisin. I am reviewing the peanut butter chocolate chip variety. These tiny bars are great for tiny fingers and even better for parents who don’t want to trash or bag up the half of bar their kid left behind. This 22 gram bar is down from 35 grams of the regular version. With only 80 calories and 3 grams of fiber, I do like it from a nutrition standpoint. As for taste, Cascadian Farms gets it right again. I have always been a fan of all of their bars. You taste the peanut butter and the chocolate. In addition, you can actually eat it without breaking a tooth.

Kid Rating: Approved. My little girl finished hers off and said, “Mommy, I like it!” She has since eaten one more.
RD/Mom Rating: Approved. I like the size especially for toddlers and preschoolers. Older children may like the regular sized bars. These can also be good for adults watching calorie intake. Taste and texture is excellent. Good source of fiber for a tiny bar. Great for a snack or with a lunch.
Bakery on Main Gluten Free Peanut Butter Chocolate Granola Bars
Bakery on Main has 3 Gluten Free Granola Bars, Peanut Butter Chocolate, Cranberry Maple Nut, and Extreme Trail Mix. They also have “Chewy Bars” that I haven’t been able to find. I am new to checking out Bakery on Main products. Gluten Free Granola isn’t as hard to find as granola bars in regular supermarkets. Natural and organic markets may have more variety.

Kid Rating: Not approved. Not enough chocolate chips for my two.
RD/Mom Rating: Approved with reservations. If this mom is going to love something, please bring me some chocolate. It definitely didn’t have enough chocolate for a peanut butter chocolate bar. Chocolate chips I only found on the top. I like a really chewy bar. This one was a little tough for me. I definitely want to try their line of “Chewy Bars”. Nutritionally, it’s fine. It’s gluten-free and dairy free. It does contain peanuts and soy.
